Sweet Dreams by Alena Lazareva has 23 line art illustrations of which there is a duplicate set of copies and there are 5 bonus illustrations from Alena’s previous colouring books . The book is A4 in size and glue bound with a glossy coloured cover of one of Alena’s originals, the illustrations of which is inside the book for you to colour. on the back there is 23 thumbnail pictures of the illustrations in the book (not including the bonus pages) It is self-published on Amazon Createspace and this means it is a lightweight paper.
The illustrations however are beautiful line art versions of Alena’s stunning digital paintings . There is also a Grayscale version which I have also reviewed here. The illustrations are the same as in the Grayscale edition, however some of the pictures have extra details added to the background. Each illustration is printed as a consistent medium black line which is both easy to see and clear to follow, while still also being fine enough to blend well into your colouring . Each is printed on white paper with a border around each single page image. On the back however all the illustration pages have black printed ink on the back. This makes the paper a little thicker and it also helps to stop markers from bleeding through, so even though the pages are one-sided I would still advise using a spare sheet of paper behind the one you are colouring in case of bleed-through especially if using alcohol based markers.
Alena’s colouring books feature her wonderful fantasy art, this book however concentrates solely on those with a “Sweetie” spin with treats such as cakes, fruits, ice cream, teapots and cups, chocolates and sweets, cocktails and ladies whom are often wearing said cakes and sweets.
As usual the illustrations by Alena are beautiful, especially her ladies and is a lovely book for those like me who enjoy colouring faces and hair. A complete sugar rush for all colourists with a sweet tooth.
I decided to colour this illustration of a lady with a Swirlypop, flowers and fruit. I decided to colour her hair pink to try and create a sort of Candy Floss look to it to tie in with the sweet theme. I used Prismacolor Premier Pencils and a White Posca Paint Pen to add highlights.
