Vive le Color! Cats is a small sized tear-off pad of Cat illustrations. It is the perfect size to take along on your travels and will fit comfortably into most handbags. The cover is card with various cats coloured in shades of orange and yellowy green with gold foiled lettering. Inside there is a glue-bound paper pad of easy to tear out sheets of medium quality paper. This is top bound to make its small size easy to colour in. It is backed by a piece of thick board so you can easily colour with this on your lap.
There are 72 illustrated one-sided pages and they easily tear out (be careful as they can easily come loose) and there is a good variety from simple to detailed, realistic to patterned and there is a good mix of different styles to keep you entertained. Last year I reviewed Vive Le Color! Horses and was disappointed by the fact that some were too simplistic, whilst others were too detailed and fiddly and many of the designs were similar. I am glad to say that is not the case with this one.
It’s a fun little book, which is ideal for travelling with, and it would appeal to both children or adults and is aimed at the casual colourist. Its perfect for use with felt tip pens, coloured pencils, gel pens and fine-liner pens will be great to use on the more detailed designs.
I chose to colour these two pictures with Staedtler Triplus fineliners and Easynote Felt Tip pens. There was no bleed through on the back with the colours I used although heavier colours may show through.
I was kindly sent a copy from the publisher, however all thoughts and comments expressed are my own honest opinion.
