Gift Boxes to Colour and Make: Birds and Blossom by Felicity French is a book of 24 gift boxes to colour and seal with stickers. The cover is paperback and is mostly pink and white with splashes of aqua, white and aqua foiling. It is sized larger than most colouring books. On the inside cover there are instructions on how to make up the gift boxes with easy to follow instructions and diagrams. They are very simple to make and measure approximately 12cm x 10cm x 6cm.
The pages are perforated so you can remove them from the book easily and the edges of the boxes are perforated well to enable you to press them out easily. All the fold lines are scored so they are easy to fold. Each box has a different design on the front, with a “Coloured for you by” box with a line underneath for you to write your name on so no-one will be in any doubt that you have coloured them. This will form the underneath of the box. There are matching motifs on each of the long sides with a different but related design on both of the small sides. There are also decorative designs to colour on the inside and top flaps. Nosy Crow make beautifully and thoughtfully designed and well-produced books and these lovely little gift boxes will beautifully compliment their cards and envelopes books if you have any of those.
The Boxes themselves have a variety of Spring/Summer type designs. There are some Easter themed ones with baskets and Eggs, but the majority have small cute animals, Butterflies, Bees, Birds and Flowers on and so would be ideal for Birthdays, Get Well Soon, and other small gifts for family, friends, neighbours and colleagues.
On the reverse, which when folded will form the inside of the box, there is a central motif which picks up the theme or repeats a motif from the front of the book, surrounded by a small repeated wallpaper type design such as small stars, snowflakes or raindrops. For Example:
The last page of the book has 24 round green foil and white stickers to seal your boxes with, and have “to” and “from” with space for you to write both your recipient and your name on.
I chose to colour a box with a Daisy and Ladybird design in felt-tip pens and a pale blue pencil, but I think I will probably colour others with glitter gel pens as I think they will add a lovely touch. Here is a selection of photographs of the same box taken from different angles and open. It took quite a while to colour, longer than I expected it to and I didn’t colour every little detail on the inside, preferring to just colour a snowflake her and there. It will definately keep you entertained, the designs are detailed and cute enough – but if you want them to send this Easter, now is the time to buy and start colouring them. You could most likely colour one in an evening.
On the inside back cover there are three simple recipes to give you ideas for gifts to make and put inside your boxes. These are Chocolate Nests, Easter Egg Biscuits and Butterfly Cakes. However you could just as easily fill with Small Easter Eggs or biscuits, an item of jewellery, Easter Decorations or another small gift just for a few ideas. I know that my friends and family will all be getting small gifts this year which fit inside these lovely boxes (They’re about the same size as the box of a certain make of popular chocolate fondant filled eggs so mine will be transferred to these, and I can fit in some mini ones as an extra surprise too), and others I will use for Birthdays, Get Well and other little gift occasions. And I will be pairing them with my coloured cards and envelopes also produced by Nosy Crow Publishing.(see Below)
