Magisk Gryning 20 Vykort by Hanna Karlzon is a small pocket sized book of 20 colourable postcards published by Swedish book publish Pagina Forlag.

The book is glue-bound and lies flat for easy colouring and removal of the postcards, although they seem well-bound and should not come out unless you wish to remove them. The cover has the same design of a winged insect surrounded by flowers and gold foiled ornamental details as the full-sized colouring book of the same name. Each page of the book is thick cardstock on the back of which is space to write your message and three address lines and stamp placement are inked in. They are thick enough to be able to use virtually any medium although alcohol markers will still probably bleed through so if you wish to send them as postcards you will need to bear this in mind.

The illustrations are the same from the full-sized book, only many are close-up details rather than the full-sized picture. They are well-chosen and none of the details are too small to make colouring difficult for anybody with decent eyesight and motor control. There is a good range of designs from a magical sand timer, decorative vials and bottle, birds, mushrooms, crystals, flowers, houses, insects, crowns and Hanna’s distinctive ‘princesses’.

The book works well on its own as a set of postcards or a pocket colouring book to take with you on your travels. It is also ideal to trial colours out before colouring the main picture in the colouring book. For those who would like to move onto colouring in Hanna’s beautiful books but find them a bit daunting, these also work as a great introduction.

I chose to colour the illustration of one of Hanna’s beautiful ‘princesses’. The postcards are slightly more textured than the pages of the colouring book so more white shows through and needs more blending if you want a smoother finish, but it took my Prismacolor Premier Pencils well.

Magisk Gryning Postcards by Hanna Karlzon is available to buy from Sweden at Penstore.com. They will be available to purchase in UK/US in March 2017 as Magical Dawn postcards and are currently available to pre-order from Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com and Book Depository.
