Please note that Keep Calm and Color: Birds of Paradise by Marica Zottino is not released until 29th July 2016. it is however available as a pre-order on Amazon. My copy was kindly sent to me from Dover Publications in exchange for an honest and fair review.

The book is the same size as their Creative Haven range of books. However unlike the Creative Haven books the pages are printed on both sides and the pages are not perforated for removal. As the paper is still quite thin, although it is thicker than copier paper, it is definately NOT suitable for Alcohol based markers. Wet water-based markers will also probably bleed through – if your markers bleed through a piece of copier paper they are likely to in this book. It feels slightly thicker than their Creative Haven range, but only slightly. Pencils are definitely fine to use, and the paper has enough tooth to grip the colour.

The designs themselves are whimsical drawings of pretty birds of paradise – some real like the peacock and flamingo, and others that are based on real birds, and others that may just be creations of the artists imagination. Illustrations are of birds on branches, with flowers, bird cages, feathers. There are a mix of single page pictures and two-page spreads. The line-work varies, sometimes within the picture itself, as a part of the design, from thin to thick lines.
